It is spread in an area of 210 acres and situated in Umsaw Village under Ribhoi District, just West of Guwahati - Shillong main road at a height of 976 metres. The Academy is blossoming in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya since 1978 and is busy shaping Police Officers of North Eastern States, who are humane, firm, knowledgeable, humble, devoted and dedicated to cause of peace in the society.
THE ORIGIN
The North Eastern Police Academy was established in 1978 on the recommendation of the Gore Committee with the limited objective of training the police personnel of N E State Police Organisations. The N E States being small and economically backward, establishing and managing independent police training centres by these States would not have been possible, hence the requirement of establishing a Regional Police Training Centre was felt.
OBJECTIVES
1) To impart one year basic training to the directly recruited Police Officers of the rank of Sub Inspector and DySP of N E States.
2) Design and offer a number of different types of inservice training programmes for Police personnel of N E States from the rank of SI and above.
3) Design and offer courses which will bring Police Officers in close contact with Officers of other Departments like Revenue, Judiciary, Magistracy and Customs, etc.
4) Undertake research surveys, case studies, etc to prepare material to be used in training.
5) Compile documents and analyse the available literature relevant directly and indirectly to Police training.
NEPA is a regional institute of national importance established with great fore-thought and vision, having responsibility to cater for the training requirement of entire N E State Police Organisations. The Academy has to function as central agency for all purposes related to police training of N E State Police Organisations. It has the commitment to train and prepare police officers capable of accepting the challenges of 21st century. The challenges are enormous and whopping . The responsibilities are vast and measureless. In its process of growth few things have been done. Few things are being done. Many things are yet to be done. Thus soars the Academy towards new heights and new horizons.
