NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY AND FORENSIC SCIENCE (NICFS)
Set up in the year 1972, the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science functions as the country’s only nodal institution for training of functionaries of criminal justice system in the twin fields of criminology and forensic science, as well as for research relating to these fields. The main objectives and functions of the Institute include organising various in-service training programmes for officers from the Police, Judiciary and Correctional Services, and also others engaged in the criminal justice system and its allied fields. It also conducts Diploma and Certificate Courses in professional subjects for forensic scientists and undertakes research work and studies on various subjects of criminology and forensic science. The Institute has two separate Departments of Criminology and Forensic Science, headed by Professor (Criminology) and Additional Director (Forensic Science), respectively, and total sanctioned staff strength of the Institute is 95.
